Project Description

Grand Roatan Resort, Honduras

The Grand Roatan Resort, which is currently being expanded to become a Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants branded property, was undergoing major renovations and expansion that included a world-case spa that was going to increase the water usage. The regional water supply draws from a surficial aquifer that was already being strained causing a decline in water quality. The resort owner wanted to implement a sustainable water source that would help alleviate the over pumping of the aquifer. Working with the resort management team, Gemini designed and implemented the first seawater desalination plant on the island that will operate using renewable energy. Following a delay due to COVID, the plant was installed and commissioned in February 2021. The maintenance staff provides day to day operation of the system with Gemini providing technical support remotely via the internet with periodic trips for inspection and additional training.
